Annual report 2023

Organisation

[redigér]

Wikimedia Denmark is an organization in Denmark that supports Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. The board of five persons had been elected on the September 2022 at the general assembly[1] and throughout 2023 had board meetings at approximately monthly intervals, usually online using Google Meet. The board was elected again in September 2023 at the General Assembly 2023. The chairman, Finn Årup Nielsen, continued on the post.

Wikimedia Denmark has a small and healthy economy with no staff. Income comes via member fees and the organization has had few expenses.

Wikimedia Denmark has joined Wikimedia Europa and is still member of the umbrella organization OpenDenmark. Our participation in international events has been limited.

The board made slight changes in its rules of procedure.

Events

In February 2023, the Swedish Embassy in Copenhagen and the Pride group organized a edit-a-thon with Wikimedia Denmark.[2] The event called WikiPrideGap 2023 coincided with the Copenhagen Winter Pride 2023 event and focused on LGBT+ issues. The event took place in the stately residence of the Swedish ambassador. Many suggestions for articles were put forward and some articles within the pride area were created. Overall the event was successful and well-attended.

An editathon on Vestamager library was very meagerly attended by only two people from Wikimedia Denmark.

Events in the successful series Wiki Labs Kultur continued in 2023. These are events that focuses on culture and often organized together with Copenhagen cultural institutions. Wikimedia Denmark has begun to use the Eventmetrics tool at the WM Cloud.[3] This tools allow us to get an overview of participants and work done during the on-site editathon. For an editathon on The Workers Museum in Copenhagen (Arbejdermuseet) on November 2023 18 participants were recorded with a good number of them being newcomers. Online Wiki Labs Kultur events continued via Google Meet. They enable Wikipedians and people interested in culture to participate in events even though the are far from Copenhagen. However, these online events have been less successful in drawing in new Wikipedians.

Other issues

[redigér]

In a letter dated 1 February 2023, the European Encyclopedia Network (ENN) had sent an open letter to the Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager where they lamented that "For years, Google has prioritised Wikipedia in search results" and pointed to the Wikimedia Enterprise agreement with Google.[4] Wikimedia Europe's Dimi Dimitrov formulated a response to the open letter it was signed by Dimitrov and Chairman of the board, Finn Årup Nielsen. Subsequently Dimitrov and Nielsen had a meeting with the EEN people to clarify issues.

The Chairman was interviewed for the radio program Foyeren that was transmitted on 19 May 2023.
