Annual report 2025 is the annual report in English for Wikimedia Denmark.

Organization
[redigér]Wikimedia Denmark is the organization in Denmark that supports Wikipedia and its sister projects. The board of five persons had been elected on the September 2024 at the general assembly[1] and throughout 2025 had board meetings at approximately monthly intervals, usually online using Google Meet. The board was elected again in September 2024 at the General Assembly 2025. The chairman, Finn Årup Nielsen, continued on the post. There was a slight change in the composition of the board with a single person leaving and a new person joining.
Wikimedia Denmark has a small and healthy economy with no staff. Income comes via member fees and the organization has had few expenses.
Wikimedia Denmark is a chapter in Wikimedia movement and the chapter is a member of the umbrella organizations Wikimedia Europe and the Danish organization OpenDenmark. We have also had online connections with affiliates from Northern Europe.
Hearing
[redigér]In the summer 2025, the Danish Ministry of Culture sent out a hearing on the proposal for a law amending the Copyright Act (Introduction of performance protection and protection against digitally generated imitations, etc.)[2] The proposal would be one of the first law, if not the first law, in the world to address the problem of AI-fake images. It was supported by a broad majority in the Danish parliament.[3]
Wikimedia Denmark responded to the hearing. We noted that the proposed amendment would reduce the public from sharing material. Specifically, there could be an affect on Wikimedia Commons and the, albeit few, AI-generated images available in the media archive. We proposed some exceptions that we hope would except Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia.
The Danish amendment proposal has also been through the Technical Regulation Information System (TRIS) process (A European Union level hearing process for national law) starting in October 2025.[4] Wikimedia Denmark has not responded to this hearing. A European gaming industry organization, VideoGamesEurope, has responded negatively to the proposal.[5]
Greenlandic Wikipedia
[redigér]In December 2024, a closure of the Greenlandic Wikipedia was proposed.[6] In 2025, Wikimedia Denmark responded in the discussion on Meta-wiki. During an editathon in Copenhagen we managed to get a Greenlandic-speaking person editing an article on the Greenlandic Wikipedia, but beyond that, we have not been able to engage Greenlandic-speaking people in Wikimedia projects. We wrote that it must be up to the few (a single) Wikipedian to make the decision about whether to close the Greenlandic Wikipedia.
In December 2025, the discussion on Meta-Wiki was closed with decision of closing the Greenlandic Wikipedia.
Events
[redigér]Wikimedia Denmark has continued to co-organize small editathons ("skrivestuer") in 2025 together with Copenhagen cultural institutions and the University of Copenhagen. In the spring of 2025, they were organized on the National Gallery of Denmark and on The Workers' Museum, both in Copenhagen.[7] The events was reported in an article in the news magazine for the University of Copenhagen.[8]
In the autumn the skrivestuer continued with events at the University of Copenhagen with the theme women and architecture, the Workers' Museum and the National Gallery of Denmark. In the autumn, we also had a new theme: Danish game history. This was organized by the organization Games Denmark with the first skrivestue of this kind taking place at the Royal Library. Furthermore, smaller events within the theme of female academics were held at the University of Copenhagen.
Participation is free, but requires registration. Site and refreshments have usually been provided by the institutions. Typical three experienced Wikipedians from Wikimedia Denmark participate and help newcomers with setting up their account and trying their first edits. For the majority of the events, we have used the Event Metrics tool running from https://eventmetrics.wmcloud.org to record participants and edits. For 2025, we recorded 12 events with the number of participant ranging from 6 to 17 and with a fairly large number of new editors each time. In October 2025, we celebrated the ten year anniversary of the Wiki Labs Kultur events with a "kagekone" (see photo).
Member of the Wikimedia Denmark board, Henriette Roued, wrote a scholarly article published in the journal Arbejdermuseet in December 2025.[9] It focused on our edit-a-thons at the Workers Museum, sustaining contributions related to women on Wikipedia as well the problem of having digital access to sources.
